Iconic Snare Sounds #1 – Carter Beauford
One of the great things about e-drumming is the ability to tinker with sounds. Not only being able to assign any sound to any drum, but also to …
Grove Tuesday #3 – Larnell Lewis
Larnell is an outstanding session and gospel player from Toronto, Canada. He’s sponsored by both Yamaha electric and acoustic drums, as well as Zildjian, Vic Firth and Evans. As with so many gospel players, they just have chops for days and Larnell is a perfect example of that. He also has plenty of online drum lessons focusing on Gospel grooves, many of which are free. There’s also a great video of him giving the Zildjian Gen 16 cymbals a good going over.
I’ve chosen a nice little live studio track which showcases plenty of Larnells effortless grove, and great disco feel in the middle which is bang in the pocket. Aside from Larnell’s playing, every other player in the video is on the money too. It’s a great track all round.
Coming up this week – we’ll be bringing back ‘Snare sounds you can’t mistake’ showcasing some of the most iconic snare sounds and playing of modern music.
Until then, happy drumming.
